Four arrested, RAF contingent deployed near religious buildings
Jamshedpur: A violent clash between two groups was averted in Golmuri on Sunday, courtesy city police who showed promptness to contain the situation.
Police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse anti-social elements out to disturb communal harmony and public tranquility in the area.
A huge deployment of paramilitary forces was made thereafter.
Security was also beefed up in other city parts to prevent a repetition of the incident.
Sources said the trouble started brewing when a group of motorcycle-borne youths stopped in Golmuri and started raising �provocative� slogans. Few local residents objected to this and allegedly beat up the youths. They also seized the vehicles.
Some of the residents also informed police about the incident. In no time, senior police officials led by SP City Prabhat Kumar reached the spot and arrested the youths.
During investigation, cops found out that cold drink bottles and stones were also hurled during the incident. Irked over the thrashing of youths, members of another community started gathering at the venue. This threatened communal clash in the area, sources said.
Taking serious note of the developments, SSP Anoop Birtharay and other officials reached Golmuri and tried to pacify both sides. When people refused to buzz, a lathicharge was ordered to disperse the mob. The situation was controlled thereafter.
Apprehending violence, many traders shut their shops. A heavy police deployment was made near religious buildings. Senior police officials patrolled the area till late night. A RAF contingent also performed flag march with district police officials.
Sources said police presence was stepped up in Mango, Dhatkidih, Sakchi, Bistupur, Kadma and other places in the city. Police also conducted checking of vehicles.
