Come forward to stop female feticide, dowry system: Banna Gupta
Six couples’ marriages settled at Surabhi’s ‘Sanjog – Humsafar ki Talash’

Jamshedpur, August 28: The unique and ambitious project of Marwari Yuva Manch (MYM) Steel City Branch’s women’s wing, Surabhi, ‘Sanjog – Humsafar ki Talash’ was organized on Saturday, August 28 at the Agrasen Bhawan in Sakchi and it turned out to be a huge success as Marwari families with eligible boys and girls from Jharkhand and other states participated in the programme. The programme was organized in memory of late Girdhari Lal Debuka, an eminent social activist of his time.

The chief guest on the occasion, Jharkhand’s health and Disaster management Minister Banna Gupta who said that he was unwell but his eagerness to be a part of the noble cause egged him on to attend the event. In his address, the Minister stressed that it was a social responsibility to take up arms against female feticide and prevalent dowry system that he described as cancers on the social system. Banna Gupta was keen to observe, “Charity begins at home. first ensure that you neither give dowry nor accept it. Stop committing the sin of female feticide. Don’t forget that our mothers are women and without them we would not have seen the light of day. It pains me to note that in spite of the tremendous social, scientific and industrial progress that man has been making, the scourges of dowry system and female feticide continue to persist even in these modern times.”
The Minister observed that future of many a promising girl was running against an otherwise avoidable wall of dowry. “In spite of these social woes of dowry and female feticide, girls are making headway in all professional fields and proving that they are in no way inferior to boys or men. Give them the chance to live and pursue their education and ensure uncountable glittering stars in the social sky. A living example of women’s capability is this fantastic organization of ‘Sanjog – Humsafar ki Talash.’ What men could not do, our women and daughters have done in a unique manner. I salute the Surabhi team for this magnificent effort,” said Banna Gupta.
Jharkhand Minister Banna Gupta recalled in brief of his days through decades when he had to face police batons, was jaoiled on several occasions but never veered from his determined ideology of fighting for thre justice of the common and deprived segments of society before the people elected him as their representatives and he was made a Minister.. His observation, “Had not the Mittal family married their daughter with me, I would have remained a bachelor,” was greeted with a loud round of applause.
Banna appealed to all members of the community to serve society and said, “It is imperative that we should take the lead in abolishing female feticide and the draconian dowry system.”
Surabhi branch president Manisha Sanghi informed that during the programme today, through negotiations between eligible boys and girls and the families six couples had agreed to enter wedlock. The inaugural program saw Chief Guest and Health Minister Banna Gupta, special guest and social worker Ashok Bhalotia, Ramkrishna Chaudhary, Santosh Khaitan, Sanjay Debuka, Santosh Agarwal, Arun Gupta, Manisha Sanghi, Kavita Agarwal, Parul Chetani, Vinita Naredi on the stage.
All guests were honored with Tulsi saplings and mementos. Dignitaries present included Santosh Agarwal, Umesh Shah, Ashok Modi, Omprakash Ringasia, Kailash Saraiwala, Vijay Anand Moonka, Nand Kishore Agarwal and others were also presented mementos.
The program anchored by the programme coordinator Parul Chetani while the vote of thanks was offered by convener Vinita Naredi. Four help desks were set up on behalf of the organization to compile details of applicants and these were manned by the community’s dignitaries. Other community elites who helped in managing this ambitious and successful programme included Mahavir Modi, Vimal Ringasia, Chhitarmal Dhoot, Balmukund Goyal, Sandeep Murarka, Mukesh Mittal, Bajrang Agarwal, Sanwarmal Agarwal and Pankaj Chhavchharia.

Surabhi branch secretary Kavita Agarwal while delivering the welcome address said that keeping view the need of society especially in present times, preparations for this program had commenced two months earlier. Kavita informed relatives of eligible boys and girls of the Marwari community who attended the programme numbered 290 heads.
Kavita said that the response had been very enthusiastic with families from Jharkhand’s Ghatshila, Musabani, Jadugoda, Chakulia, Seraikela, Chaibasa, Chakradharpur, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Chas and neighboring states of Bihar, Bengal and Orissa had participated in today’s programme, ‘Sanjog – Humsafar ki Talash.’ .
She said that bio data of eligible Marwari boys and girls would continue to be collected at the Surabhi office to facilitate marriages in the community.
