Cold snap continues as minimum temperature drops to 12°C in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur Shivers at 12°C as Cold Wave Sweeps Across Jharkhand

Jamshedpur: The mercury continued to dip across Jharkhand today as north-westerly winds dominated the weather pattern, leading to a noticeable drop in minimum temperatures in several districts. According to the Meteorological Department, the cold wave was more pronounced in some areas, with clear skies and brisk winds enhancing the chill.

Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 8.5 degrees Celsius, marking one of the coldest mornings this season. In Jamshedpur, the mercury settled at 12 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than other parts of the state but still significantly cooler than the average for February.

The cold spell was even more severe in other regions. Daltonganj saw the temperature dip to 9.3 degrees Celsius, while Bokaro recorded 10.1 degrees and Chaibasa experienced 10.6 degrees Celsius.

The lowest temperature in the state was recorded in Khunti, where the mercury plunged to a bone-chilling 7.2 degrees Celsius. This made it the coldest spot in Jharkhand today.

In other regions, Chatra reported 8.4 degrees Celsius, Jamtara saw 9.5 degrees, and Seraikela noted 10.9 degrees Celsius.

Despite the drop in temperatures, most parts of Jharkhand woke up to clear and bright weather. The day was marked by a gentle breeze blowing at a speed of 15-20 Kmph, providing a crisp yet pleasant atmosphere. The sunny skies, however, did little to counter the morning chill, especially in areas with lower temperatures.

The Meteorological Department has predicted pleasant weather for the next two days with a likely slight rise in minimum temperatures. Meteorologists noted the absence of any significant synoptic conditions over Jharkhand, indicating no major weather disturbances in the immediate future.

Residents across the state were seen bundling up in warm clothing to ward off the cold. In Ranchi and Khunti, early morning walkers were seen wearing heavy woolens and mufflers. In Jamshedpur, office-goers and students were seen opting for layered clothing to cope with the chilly breeze.

Authorities have advised people, especially the elderly and children, to take necessary precautions against the cold wave. Health officials have also urged the public to maintain adequate hydration and nutrition to combat seasonal ailments.

With the cold wave likely to persist for a couple of days, residents of Jharkhand can expect the current weather conditions to continue. However, the anticipated gradual rise in temperatures may bring some respite.
