CM stresses on clean, green city at Jan Samvad

Jamshedpur, Feb. 7: Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Sunday sought suggestions from the stake holders to make Jamshedpur a clean and green city.

Das participated in the Jan Samvad organized at SNTI auditorium this evening. Representatives from corporate houses and media took part in it and gave suggestions to make the city a better place to live in. He said that throwing unused plastic covers and waste outside shops or in the roadside drain will be a strict no-no in market areas across the city.

In a gesture, inspired by the nationwide Swach Bharat Abhiyan, Das directed traders and corporate houses to provide dustbins as a mandatory item in their respective localities.

It is our collective responsibility to make the city clean and green. Corporate houses must take initiatives in this regard, noted Das.

SCCI president Suresh Sonthalia said that already issued directives to all the markets associations members seeking their help in the campaign to keep the market premises clean as part of a responsible citizen.

We have already discussed with our market association members and most of them have agreed to support it as part of the state government initiative.

We would be personally inspecting different market associations from February and those shops and establishments found without dustbins would be asked to get it at the earliest in front of all the shopkeepers after making him understand the benefits of throwing waste in a bin rather than in open spaces and drains which in turn would get clogged, said Sonthalia.

A Jusco representative said that most of the shops do have dustbins after the utility services undertook the Zimmedar Nagrik, Zimmedar Shahar (responsible citizen and responsible city) campaign in several major markets. But some traders are callous attitude towards cleaning and we have to tell them openly to keep bins for disposal of waste rather than opting for easy means of throwing it on roadsides and drains which in turn mars the beauty of their market area.

State Urban Development minister C P Singh, Jamshedpur MP Bidhyut Baran Mahto, MLA Meneka Sardar, Sunil Bhaskaran, vice-president, Tata Steel Corporate Services, Ashish Mathur, Jusco managing director, Tarun Daga, managing director, Tinplate Company of India Limited, A B Lal, Plant Head, Tata Motors, were also present on the occasion.
