CM rules out plea for 3-day holiday on Tusu, says its time to work in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, Jan. 21: Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Thursday said that while our culture connects people, politics disunites.

Addressing a large gathering at the Vishal Tusu Mela at Gopal Maidan here, Das said Jharkhands culture, tradition and identity cannot be wiped away. The western culture is trying to dominate us and so it is necessary to keep a check and not to forget that our culture and tradition. We should be careful to disassociate us with the people who try to divide us.

Festivals bring debilitation in our daily life, which fills in us with new energy. We should make sure that we pass on this tradition to our coming generation and preserve it, added Das.

Earlier, Raghubar inaugurated the fair by offering flowers to the portraits of martyrs.

Jamshedpur MP Vidhut Baran Mahato and Ichchagarh MLA Sadhucharan Mahato urged the CM to announce a three-day government holiday on Tusu, but Das said one day leave is granted for the festival and already there are so many holidays in a calendar year in the state.

In Jharkhand, its not the time for holidays, but to work sincerely for its development. We have to celebrate the festivals by performing our duties and working for the state, he added.

Tusu festival is especially for the farmers and, hence, the state government will be introducing several schemes for them.

The kind of turnout today proved that now Gopal Maidan is relatively smaller to host crowds of this capacity.
