Jamshedpur, July 7: Chief Minister Raghubar Das launched the ‘Ek Ped Ek Jeevan Campaign’ during the inauguration of Jusco’s environmental projects on Thursday.
The objective of the campaign is to make Jamshedpur a greener city through community participation, to increase the green cover of Jamshedpur, participation from 20 social organizations, market associations, schools, etc and awareness through technical sessions.
During the duration 200 days of the campaign 1 lakh trees will be planted in residential areas. The plant species include hybrid fruit saplings of mango, leechi, papaya, guava, etc.
The resources for the camping include 12 Tata Ace Vehicles and 52 people (manpower). The campaign will cover the entire town, which is divided into 20 zones and with the help of community will undertake plantation at residential colonies.
Planting teak seedlings in Ramadhin Bagan area and Gowala Basti , Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that the state government wants to plant 3 crore seedlings by July 31. He said that modernization is need of the hour but at the same time, we have to plant as many trees as used for the sake of development. “Protection of ‘jal, jungle, zameen’ (water, forest and land) is not our political agenda but a commitment,” he said.�
The government has plans to provide subsidy to slum dwellers to promote rain water harvesting, he added.
Inaugurating the Jusco�s endeavor of afforestation campaign �one tree, one life�, CM provided women with mango plants and flagged off the campaign vehicle. Inspired by CM�s endeavor to plant trees, Jusco has decided to distribute 1 lakh fruit trees among the people.
On the occasion, Ashish Mathur, managing director, Jusco, said, ‘We will plant 1 lakh trees in 200 days as part of the “One tree, one life” campaign in the state.�
