CM Sarma Dismisses JMM’s Prospects in Assam

“Voters Do Not Favor Outsiders”

Guwahati (IANS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday dismissed the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM) chances in the upcoming state elections, asserting that local voters will not support an “outsider” political entity.

Speaking to reporters during a campaign stop in Duliajan, Sarma argued that the JMM’s identity fails to resonate with the regional sentiments of the Assamese people.

“The people of Assam will not vote for Jharkhand Mukti Morcha,” Sarma remarked. “Had its name been ‘Assam Mukti Morcha,’ it would have been a different matter.”

Sarma Slams Congress Over Zubeen Garg Reference

The Chief Minister also took aim at the Congress party for featuring the late legendary singer Zubeen Garg in its election manifesto. Sarma cautioned against politicizing a revered cultural icon, categorizing Garg’s admirers into two groups: those who genuinely appreciate his music and those who exploit him for political gain.

Sarma demanded that Congress remove references to “justice” for Zubeen Garg from their manifesto, calling the move insensitive. “The Congress should not insult Zubeen. Dragging him into electoral politics is not acceptable,” he stated.

Confidence in BJP Mandate

As political exchanges intensify ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, Sarma reiterated the BJP’s confidence in securing a strong mandate. He cited the party’s development agenda and grassroots connection as the primary drivers for their expected victory.

With both national and regional players stepping up their campaigns, the political landscape in Assam remains charged as parties vie for influence in key constituencies.
