Jamshedpur: Several parts of Jharkhand, especially the southern region, woke up to overcast skies on Monday, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted light rainfall or thundershowers in isolated areas over the next two days.
According to the latest forecast from IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre, the cloudy conditions are expected to persist, with the possibility of brief spells of rain today and on Thursday. However, no significant changes in the minimum temperature are anticipated in the next three days.
The minimum temperature across most districts of Jharkhand was recorded between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius, providing a slight chill in the air. The maximum temperature remained in the range of 26 to 28 degrees Celsius in cities like Jamshedpur, Ranchi, and Dhanbad.
Despite the cloud cover, the IMD has ruled out any major drop in temperature, as atmospheric conditions are not favorable for a cold wave. “No significant change in the minimum temperature is expected in the coming days. The temperature will remain within normal limits,” an official from the Ranchi Meteorological Centre stated.
The prevailing weather conditions have been attributed to a Western Disturbance, which is currently positioned as a trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies. According to IMD, this disturbance has its axis at approximately 5.8 km above mean sea level, roughly along Longitude 67°E to the north of Latitude 33°N.
Additionally, an induced cyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, has also been influencing the weather over eastern India, including Jharkhand. The combined effect of these systems has led to increased moisture in the atmosphere, resulting in cloudy conditions and the possibility of light rain.
Weather experts have also noted the emergence of a fresh Western Disturbance, which is currently seen as a trough in the middle tropospheric level. This disturbance, positioned along Longitude 55°E to the north of Latitude 32°N at 5.8 km above mean sea level, is likely to impact weather patterns in the coming days.
The sudden change in weather has brought relief to many, especially farmers who have been dealing with dry conditions over the past few weeks. However, the possibility of light showers may also disrupt outdoor activities, particularly in areas dependent on open-air markets and construction work.
