Jamshedpur, Oct 29: In a major breakthrough, Sitaramdera police have arrested a close aide of jailed gangster Dashrath Shukla.
The arrest marks another success for the local police in their ongoing crackdown on organized crime in the region.
According to police sources, a pistol and live cartridges were recovered from the possession of the accused.
The arrested individual is believed to be actively involved in the extortion network linked to Dashrath Shukla, who was recently arrested by Ranchi police and sent to jail for demanding extortion in the names of Prince Khan and Sujit Sinha.
The case dates back to October 10, when shots were fired at the residence of businessman Hareram Singh in Jamshedpur over extortion demands.
A case was registered at the Sitaramdera police station, and a detailed investigation was launched.
Acting on intelligence inputs, police teams raided a house in the Sidhgora area on the night of October 27–28, where one of the suspects in the firing incident was hiding.
The accused reportedly opened fire on the police team, leading to a brief encounter. He was injured in the exchange of fire and later admitted to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) for treatment.
Continuing their operation, the police received another tip-off on Tuesday evening about the presence of Dashrath Shukla’s close associate in the Sitaramdera area.
A raid was conducted, resulting in his arrest and the recovery of a firearm and live ammunition.
Confirming the development, City SP Kumar Shivashish said the police remain committed to dismantling the network of criminals associated with Dashrath Shukla and his associates.
The arrested accused has been sent to jail following interrogation.
