Clear skies, pleasant weather expected on New Year’s Day in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: New Year revellers in Jharkhand can look forward to a delightful start to 2025, as the Meteorological Department has predicted dry and pleasant weather for January 1. IMD offices in both Patna and Ranchi have confirmed that Jharkhand is likely to remain rain-free on New Year’s Day, accompanied by a drop in minimum temperatures.

The weather forecast suggests shallow fog and mist early in the morning on January 1, which will clear up as the day progresses, leaving a fair and sunny sky. A duty officer at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre confirmed, “In today’s study of satellite pictures and wind chart analysis, we did not find any adverse conditions on New Year’s Day.” The chill in the air is expected to intensify, with minimum temperatures predicted to drop by 2-4°C over the next 72 hours.

Daytime temperatures are anticipated to remain comfortable, with maximum readings between 26°C and 28°C, while nighttime minimum temperatures will hover around 11°C to 13°C in most parts of the state, including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Daltonganj.

Today’s temperature readings painted an unusually warm December day, with Ranchi recording a minimum of 14.9°C, six degrees above normal. Jamshedpur was slightly warmer at 16.6°C, also six degrees above the average for this time of year. Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district recorded 16.5°C, five notches above normal, while Bokaro and Daltonganj reported 15.5°C and 15.4°C, respectively, both significantly higher than their usual seasonal readings.

Meteorologists confirmed that no significant synoptic conditions are prevailing over Jharkhand. The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation remains positioned over Northwest Uttar Pradesh at 3.1 km above mean sea level, with a trough aloft in the upper tropospheric westerlies at 5.8 km above mean sea level. An induced cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan at 1.5 km above mean sea level also persists. Despite these systems, their impact is not expected to extend to Jharkhand in the coming days.

“For those planning outdoor celebrations, the weather is likely to provide a perfect backdrop for welcoming the New Year. The combination of a clear sky, pleasant daytime temperatures, and a gentle chill in the evening sets the stage for a festive atmosphere across the state,” said an official of IMD.
