The incident occurred when Jitendra Dubey, a resident of Jamshedpur, was constructing a building on a disputed land near Putru village. On receiving information the local villagers arrived at the site and demanded suspension of the construction. Two youths, Sunil Das and Bodra Patnaik, residents of Nagra, allegedly hurled abuses and engaged in physical violence with the villagers. They were captured and were severely beaten by the villagers before being handed over to the police.
Both the youths were admitted in the sub-divisional hospital in Ghatshila. Due to serious condition of Bodra Patnaik, he was referred to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur where his condition remained critical.
Jitendra Kumar Dubey had purchased the land near the Putru Highway in the name of his wife Aarti. The disputed land was used by the villagers for community activities like worship, sports and cultural programmes. Villagers accused Dubey of forcibly encroaching on the government land to build his house.
