Section 144 to remain effective till �midnight of May 18
Jamshedpur: Following clash on voting day at Jugsalai, police on Monday started scanning CCTV footage from the polling booths housed at St John’s High School at Jugsalai to nab the trouble mongers.
Jawans of Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) are deployed at ME School Road and Millat Nagar where a section of youths clashed with police due to dispute over polling booth between candidate Champai Soren and BJP supporters at the St John’s High School on Sunday afternoon.
Superintendent of police (City) Prabhat Kumar along with his team scanned the footage from the CCTV cameras installed at polling booths set up in the St John’s High School.
” We are studying the footage from the CCTV camera so that the trouble creators can be identified and prosecuted for disturbing the poll process and creating violence in the locality,” said Kumar.
Police said that clash between the two groups initially took place at the polling booth located at St John School. When one of the groups became aggressive the jawans posted at the spot used mild force and drove away the people. During this voting was hampered for some time but later it commenced peacefully. After some time the two groups once again were involved in brawl with each other some distance away from the polling both during which stone pelting between the two sides also took place.
He said they have so far detained six persons from Millat Nagar for their involvement in the violence which left four policemen, including a Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawan injured. He pointed out they would arrest more persons but only after getting their involvement verified through the CCTV footage.
The senior police officer said that prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC which has been promulgated at the troubled area since Sunday night will remain effective till midnight of May 18 .
Meanwhile, a delegation of ME School Road residents met the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner, Amit Kumar in a delegation and demanded protection for their lives and properties from the residents of adjoining Millat Nagar.
