Jamshedpur, July 11: Following orders closure of vegetable markets in three urban civic body areas – Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC), Mango Notified Area Committee ( MNAC ) and Jugsalai Municipality from 3 pm of Saturday to 7 pm of Sunday, a drive was launched to sanitise the vegetable markets.

The step was taken as the vegetable markets drew a huge crowd due to its location on the main roads, which posed a risk to public health amid the coronavirus outbreak. Markets at Sakchi, Kadma and other key places were sanitized. The move is also aimed at ensuring appropriate social distancing at the markets in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

� We launched a drive to sanitize key vegetable markets. Moreover, several cases of coronavirus have been reported among vegetable vendors. We want to ensure that people also maintain social distancing while moving out,� said an official of JNAC.

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla said sanitisation was carried out in vegetable markets under the three urban local bodies during this period.
The markets included those in Sakchi, Bistupur, Mango, Sonari, Kadma, Sidhgora, Baridih, Golmuri, Jugsalai, Bhalubasa and Baradwari.

The �deputy commissioner asked the officials of the three civic bodies to involve the incident commanders in carrying out the sanitization work. He said that the move will also help to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the markets.

“Though people were seen making last minute purchases, we have tried to educate vegetable vendors too to vacate the markets.� The step of closing the vegetable market was taken for carrying out sanitisation work which will help in preventing the transmission of the disease, ” said the official.

The official said that such sanitisation work will be conducted on a weekly basis keeping in view the safety of the people. �Social distancing and wearing masks is a need of the hour and we shall enforce it,� he added. � People visiting shops, banks, offices, and establishments � all of them are already aware of precautions to be taken, if they do not implement mask wearing and ensure safe distance, the city police will initiate legal action,� he noted.
He called upon the people to enforce wearing masks and social distancing in public spaces. He urged citizens to enforce mask wearing and social distancing. Orders have also been issued to identify shops or market places that are inviting crowds and not paying heed to the safety norms.
