City transporter shoots man to death in Jemco Busti

Jamshedpur: A transporter, identified as Satnam Singh alias Goldy shot dead a man, one Arun Namta, in his house in Jemco Machhua Busti under Telco police station area on Saturday, police said.

The victim was taken to Tata Motors Hospital in critical condition where he succumbed during treatment.

Police said the incident took place around 7 pm when the accused tried to recover his money which he had reportedly lent to Namta and opened fire on him from close distance when a dispute arose on the issue. The accused demanded his money back from Namta. On not getting a favourable answer, he pulled a gun at the latter and opened fire, police said.

Namta fell immediately to the bullets. He was taken to the hospital by his family members and neighbours.
Irked over the incident, the Busti residents blocked the main road in the locality for several hours demanding arresting of the killers and compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amol Venukant Homkar and SP (city) Kartik S visited the crime scene and inquired into the incident. They assured the agitators to take prompt action against the accused.

A huge deployment of police was made in the locality after the incident. Cops said the accused transporter had fled his house after the incident.

Sources said Namta was a staff of Telco Recreation Club. His killing has led local residents to protest against inefficacy of police.
