Jamshedpur, Sept 6: A meeting of different social organizations of the city was held at the Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD) office on Tuesday to chalk strategy for the forthcoming anti-polythene campaign.
DPRO of East Singhbhum Sanjay Kumar, presiding over the meeting, appealed to the various organizations’ representatives to make the upcoming campaign a grand success.
“We convened today’s meeting to ensure larger participation of the social organizations through their members as well as an active participation on part of the residents of this city. The people should come forward to make this campaign a huge success as it will directly impact each one of us. Use of plastic bags should be discouraged and paper or cloth bags should be used instead,” said the DPRO.
Among the organizations represented at the meeting included Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce, Civil Defence, Indian Red Cross Society, Lion’s Club, Varishtha Nagrik Samiti, Samadhan, Jamshedpur Motor Dealers Association and Bagbera Mahanagar Vikas Samiti.
It was unanimously decided to launch an awareness campaign in different parts of the city till 30th September.
Suggestions were made by the representatives for ensuring greater impact of the campaign. It was decided to run the campaign especially in marketplaces where polythene bags are used by customers, shopkeepers and vendors.
Alternatives of polythene bags were also explored at the meeting.
District administration has decided to observe No Polythene Day on 2nd October.
DC Amit Kumar will be leading and guiding the campaign against polythene aimed at saving the environment.
