Jamshedpur : The rising incidents of road accidents in the city have prompted the traffic police to get tough with the commercial vehicles particularly, heavy vehicles plying on the road.
The police have decided to crack whip on the motor vehicles that are, for some reason or other, not plying in accordance with the established norms of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Two relatively big incidents of road accident on the busy streets of the city in the daytime involving intra city passenger buses , itself have forced the DTO to get to the task. “Restoring vehicular order on the street is the primary task of the DTO and, in the larger interest of the people and their safety it has become all the more important for us to keep check on the vehicles of all segment,” said an official.
Meanwhile, the school buses or, for that matter the vehicles ferrying school children especially, vans and auto-rickshaws are under the scanner of the transport office as reports of vans operating on LPG has reached the transport officials.
“Most of the officials of the department are either on leave or have been put on different task hence, small strength has been causing hindrance in carrying out the drive so far, but the district administration has agreed to co-operate us in our future endeavor,” informed the DTO.
Nonetheless, the transport office is expecting the schools on its part to carry out the exercise of checking the vehicles to ascertain, which are the ones doing business sincerely and who are risking the life of the children by not complying with the Motor Vehicle Act.
