CISCE to introduce Project Work in ISC Arts

Jamshedpur : The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations ( CISCE) has decided to introduce project work of 20 marks in the 100-mark ISC history and political science papers to ensure students learn the subjects beyond the textbooks. The move will help the students get a broader aspect of these subjects.

Officials of the council said that students who will take admission in Class XI this year will be the first batch to do project work in history and political science in the ISC. As per plans the project work scores will carry 20 per cent weightage and will be part of the total scores in the final exams of classes XI and XII.

Six of the 20 marks in the project work will be reserved for viva voce. The oral examination, the official said, would be conducted by external examiners to ensure the students do the projects on their own.

Among the arts subjects, the Delhi-based council has already introduced project work in sociology and geography.

Sneha Pal a school teacher said that project work would lead to a deeper understanding of the subjects as the students would have to study various materials and gather and analyse information.

Schools had long been requesting the council to introduce project work in arts subjects to make the subjects more interesting.

The steel city has five schools that offer arts in Plus Two. These are Loyola School, Sacred Heart Convent School and Kerala Public School (Kadma), besides The Tagore Academy and JH Tarapore.
