Chinese Premiers effigy burnt in city

Jamshedpur: A large number of people including united under the banner of Sahas Youth Front, a city-based NGO, burnt the effigy of the Chinese Premier at Sakchi roundabout on Friday to protest prohibition on government employees and students observing roza (fast) during the holy month of Ramadan in China.

The agitators said the orders of the Chinese government seemed to be against the Muslims and greatly astonishing and unjustified. They said the said order was totally against the principles of religious liberty and humanitarianism. They said the prohibition had hurt the Muslims across the world greatly as it tended to suppress religious sentiments and hurt them.

We have come to know through various sources that China has issued orders prohibiting government employees and students of schools and colleges to observe roza during the holy month of Ramadan.

This is unbelievably shocking and pathetic. It has hurt the sentiments of Muslims by its very lack of tolerance, said one of the protestors.

Leading the agitators, Umar Khan, president of the outfit, said there was no justification in the orders of the Chinese government and it was an indication of its intolerant and conspiring attitude towards the Muslims, especially those from India.

He said the outfit had demanded that the Indian government should intervene into the matter and warn the Chinese government against such moves.
