Jamshedpur: In a shocking show of insensitivity, the five children of a 59 year old woman who died of cancer today refused to carry out the last rituals of their mother till their demand for a partition of their joint property was decided, eyewitnesses said.
As a result of the adamant behavior shown by her four sons and one daughter, the womans body lay outside the Sakchi Gurudwara for several hours. Members of Sikh community and Sakchi police officials intervened and persuaded the five siblings to cremate their dead mother.
Sources said the deceased, Charanjeet Kaur passed away at her Sakchi residence this morning. Her children, identified as Jaspal Singh, Prem Singh, Jasbir Singh Kuldeep Singh and Amarjeet Kaur, took her body to the Gurudwara and instead of proceeding for cremation, reportedly sat there on dharna while demanding that the partition of their property be first carried out.
They insisted that the cremation should be held up till the partition was done then and there.
Finding the situation rather awkward and embarrassing for the community and against humanitarian values, the senior community leaders and the OC of Sakchi PS Anjani Tiwary tried to make the adamant family members see reason and let the cremation take place.
The five siblings also insisted on the division of their property, Ajeet Complex, situated at Sakchi. After much persuasion, the five agreed to allow the cremation and last rituals.
They gave in writing to the police their decision to allow the cremation.
