Chief Secretary reviews tribal empowerment and livelihood schemes

Ranchi: Chief Secretary Raj Bala Verma here on Wednesday said that women of the state will be strengthened and made self-reliant.

As many as 2,000 women will be trained in auto-driving and tagged with MUDRA Scheme so that they may become financially independent. She made the observation while jointly reviewing Jharkhand Tribal Empowerment and Livelihood Promotion and PAN-I.I.T.

It was decided at the meeting that training in Seraikela and Koderma will be given through PAN I.I.T and from the next session, nine Gurukuls will be opened to train youths in different sectors.

The CS directed the state officials concerned to connect tribal people with different conversion schemes and monitor them at departmental level.

She said that the department should conduct a survey of social and economic level of primitive tribes like Birhor and Paharia and their children should be tagged with Sports Academy and Kasturba schools for training. She said that proposals should be made for providing water, house, livelihood and health facilities in areas largely inhabited by tribal people. Community resource persons and SHGs should be trained in different sectors to make the villagers self-dependent in livelihood, she said.

Verma said that JTEPL is working well but root level work is required to be done in this project. She said to prepare projects on poultry, goat rearing, piggery and provide them a marketplace. She also directed to open bank account of all SHGs.

It was said in the meeting that schemes worth Rs 635 crore were running in 14 districts of the state which has given a boost to cottage industries. A total of 5500 SHGs have been set up by now and 6,000 solar lights and 492 pumps have been distributed through ZREDA.

The scheme of upgrading 65 schools is under process and 20 subdivisions have been identified for new Gurukuls and Ashram schools, she said.

Welfare Secretary Himani Pandey and other senior officers were present at the meeting.
