Ranchi: Chief Secretary Sajal Chakraborty at a meeting to review the status of preparedness for the South West Monsoon 2014 today laid stress on State Disaster Management and District Disaster Management Plans for all the 24 districts to be updated by the Disaster Management Department. The Chief Secretary at the meeting held at the Project Building directed the Department to strengthen the Control Rooms at the State, division, district, at the , sub-division level .
He instructed the Information and Public Relation Department to publicizing the Control room numbers through newspapers, hoardings and banners. He asked the Health Department to procure health equipments and medicines. He said that the Department must ensure the availability of rescue boats and divers in case of flood situation. He said that lightening conductors should be installed in schools to avoid calamities.
He directed the District Magistrates to hold meetings in their concerned areas to deal with monsoon related issues. He recommended joint taskforce by Forest Department, RCD and REO in villages to earmark steps to avoid calamity during monsoons. Chief Secretary directed the Department to identify vulnerable roads and bridges in various districts. He focused on vulnerability assessment of flood prone areas and likely submergence, monitoring of river levels and daily rainfall.
Disaster Management Principal Secretary Arun Kumar Singh at the meeting presented the status of preparedness for South West Monsoon 2014 and matters pertaining to various Departments. He said that the Department will ensure proper functioning of the control rooms and that all emergency numbers are in working condition 24X7. He said that the Department will make assessment of food grains available in Panchayats.
Principal Secretary Home NN Pandey, Secretary, Principal Secretary Road Construction Rajbala Verma, Secretary Information & Public Relation Secretary MR Secretary MeenaAgriculture N.M. Kulkarni along with other officials were present during the meeting.
