Ranchi: Arun Kumar Rai, the Chief Justice of Civil Court in Ranchi and a senior judicial officer of the Judicial Service Cadre, is set to become a judge of the Jharkhand High Court. This appointment marks the fourth instance of a judge transitioning from Civil Court Ranchi to the High Court. The Supreme Court collegium, responsible for recommending judges’ appointments across the country, has given its nod to AK Rai’s elevation as a High Court judge.
The collegium formally approved AK Rai’s name for Jharkhand on January 18, recommending him for the position. Once the President grants approval, AK Rai will be sworn in as a judge of the High Court. Hailing from Purnia district in Bihar, AK Rai has held various judicial roles, including District and Sessions Judge of Hazaribagh, Member Secretary of Jhalsa, and Family Court Judge of Bokaro. His most recent appointment was as the Chief Justice of Ranchi Civil Court on November 5, 2021.
