Check posts to come up at Jamshedpur entry points during Durga Puja, visitors to undergo COVID tests

Jamshedpur, Oct 18: As part of its strategy to combat the threat of further spread of coronavirus, the district administration has stepped up checking of those entering the city. In view of Durga Puja celebration, the administration has decided to set up testing centres near entry points. The visitors coming to the city from different districts will have to undergo mandatory COVID-19 antigen tests. �

In view of the importance of the Dobo-Kanderbera road linking to the steel city through Domuhani Bridge, vehicular movement through that stretch has increased considerably.

A team led by SDO Nitish Kumar and ADM ( law and order) NK Lal inspected different entry points of the city on Saturday.

� We have inspected the entry points, one near the Kharkai bridge near Adityapur and another one at a bridge near Dobo. We have set up kiosks and have deployed a health team and police personnel. Those coming to the city will have to undergo testing. Police teams have barricaded the roads and set up kiosks at different entry points,� said an official.

The East Singhbhum district had its first Coronavirus positive case on May 12, exactly four months from now, when a 23-year-old girl and a 27-year-old youth from Chakulia were admitted at the Tata Main Hospital.   Since May 12, the Coronavirus continued to spread across the East Singhbhum district and in six months has crossed the 15,000 mark.

During a telephonic press meet, the Dr Rajan Choudhry former general manager, medical services, Tata Steel also said that in order to ensure safety during the coming months it is really very important for people to stay away from the crowd. They should avoid gathering in rituals and celebrate the festival with their family members.

In view of the festive season, the administration has ordered authorities to ensure enhanced checking at the border points. It has also directed thermal screening at the entry gates.

Officials said they could conduct tests on the spot at checkpoints. The results of these tests will be available in around 10 minutes. Only those found negative will be allowed to enter the city. To conduct these tests, health care professionals will also be deployed at the checkpoints, along with police officials.

Even DIG Rajiv Ranjan has asked the police administration to come up with checkpoints at bordering areas of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seriakela and Kharsawan. People visiting either of the districts will have to undergo testing at the check posts.
