Chaos, allegations over burial in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Dec 15: Burial over the death of a person in Sirka village under MGM police station led to chaos with squabbles between the family members of the deceased and the local villagers. On information, the police and the Gram Pradhan intervened and pacified the agitated people and the corpse was buried according to rituals.

MGM police station OC explained that as per Adivasi tradition, the local Gram Pradhan is to be informed on the death of a family member. On being informed, the local Gram Pradhan observes fast but the family of the deceased, instead of informing the local Gram Pradhan informed his counterpart of another village. When the family took its dead for burial at another village, the villagers protested and a quarrel ensued. They informed the police, MLA and minister and sensing the situation getting out of hand, the MLA informed the police OC and after verifying the facts the Gram Pradhan was informed. The police and Gram Pradhan intervened and pacified the agitated parties after which the deceased was allowed to be buried. The family that lost a member is reportedly not in the good books of its own villagers and has filed many cases against them which are pending judgment in court.
