XLRI’s new academic session begins with 551 students
Jamshedpur, June 11: Xavier School of Management (XLRI) Jamshedpur welcomed the new batch of students of the new academic year 2024-26 on Monday. A total of 551 new students have joined the XLRI student fraternity.
The inauguration ceremony of the new academic session was conducted offline this year. The event has already become a tradition and every year it is conducted in the Tata Auditorium, XLRI Jamshedpur campus. The event was attended by all the new students, their parents, XL faculties & staff members.
There has been a significant shift in admission trends this year. Engineering graduates have dominated the two-year management courses at XLRI. However, this year marks a notable change, especially in the Human Resource Management (HRM) program, where for the first time, 50 percent of the students are from non-engineering backgrounds. This shift challenges the long-standing trend of engineering dominance in these courses.
In the Business Management (BM) program, 55 percent of the students come from engineering backgrounds, while 45 percent are from non-engineering fields. This diverse mix indicates a broadening academic profile among the incoming students.
9 students enrolled in the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and 14 students enrolled in the Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EXEC-FPM).
Student Demographics: PGDM (BM): 236 students (31% female, 69% male, 55% engineering background), PGDM (HRM): 180 students (59% female, 41% male, 50% engineering background), PGDM (GM): 112 students (30% female, 70% male, 79% engineering background).
Fr. S George S.J, Director, XLRI, Fr. Donald D’Silva S.J, Dean Administration & Finance, XLRI and Prof. Sanjay Patro, Dean Academics, XLRI, along with other dignitaries on the dais inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. In order to earnestly seek the divine blessings of God Almighty verses from the holy books were recited by XL staff members which motivated our students to lead an honest & pure life.
Prof. Sanjay Patro (Dean Academics, XLRI) delivered the welcome address. Fr. Donald D’Silva SJ (Dean A&F, XLRI) recited the prayer after which all the students of the new academic year 2024-26 were introduced to the 80+ Professors of the Jamshedpur XLRI campus. Fr. S Geroge S.J., Director, XLRI addressed the gathering and said, “I welcome you all to the XLRI family. Each one of you is here purely on your own merit, nothing else. You’ve reached the peak but there are other hills you’ll have to climb. Make sure you make the most of the opportunities at XLRI. When you succeed, XLRI succeeds. And when you fail, we fail. Your every action, brings glory to XLRI.”
“XLRI has consistently prioritized diversity in its classrooms, curating a varied student body in terms of gender, educational background, economic background, and professional backgrounds, as well as regional diversity. This commitment extends to ensuring a balanced gender ratio, with XLRI historically pioneering the inclusion of women in management education in India. As a Jesuit institution rooted in strong values, XLRI not only respects and values women but also fosters an environment where they feel safe and empowered,” said an XLRI official.
The academic inaugural event was then followed by an ice-breaking event where all the students had participated and several games/activities were conducted. This two-hour event was a complete refreshment and made all the students interact comfortably with each other.
The new students were then taken through a Special Orientation Programme drawn up by XLRI to update their knowledge before regular classes commenced.
