Chandan Jha takes over as new SP City, promises better crime control

Jamshedpur : Chandan Jha joined as the new superintendent of police (city) from today. The new City SP took charge from the superintendent of police (rural) Shailendra Kumar Sinha.

Jha’s predecessor Karthik S had handed over the charge as City SP to Sinha before he leaving for Ranchi where he was posted as SP (Traffic) on February 20.

A 2011 batch IPS, Chandan was earlier posted as sub-divisional police officer in Pakur district and had a brief stint as additional SP in the Special Branch. A resident of Darbhanga district, the new SP had done his schooling in Patna and engineering from NIT, Calicut in Kerala.

The newly appointed SP said that the police administration will ensure strict vigil and better law and order system here.

Answering the queries he said that the police stations in the district will hold meetings every month with the members of the citizen committees formed in their jurisdictions to seek suggestions from them and also suggest opinions for curbing neighbourhood crimes.

The SP went on to add that involving the community and educating them may effectively address the crime. The concept of community policing has also been introduced in many states.

In this initiative, community support is sought to help police in crime prevention, giving information about any anti-social or criminal activity in the area and helping police in arrest of proclaimed offenders.

“We will also increase the night vigil and patrolling. Special check points would be installed during late hours in various sectors.

Notably, of late there has been a spurt in the crime of loot, snatching, eve-teasing and drunk-driving at the steel city.

The people, especially the women and girls are not safe as the criminals and other miscreants have a free run committing loot and snatching with impunity.
