Chamber defends traders over hoarding and price hike

Jamshedpur: A delegation of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) led by the outfit president Suresh Sonthalia met the deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Amitabh Kaushal regarding the continuous increase of prices of essential commodities, especially potato and onion.

We want to draw the attention of the district administration to the fact that since the wholesale trade is conducted through the Agricultural Products Market Committee at Parsudih, there is no scope of hoarding. Entire business is being recorded and monitored by the administration, said the SCCI president.

Sonthalia said there was a huge difference of prices in the wholesale and retail market. Since the retail market is unorganized and sans administrative control, the traders of Parsudih Market yard should not be targeted for hoarding, he said.

We assured the administration that the SCCI was equally concerned about the rising prices and was ready to cooperate with the administration in giving relief to the citizens of Jamshedpur from the rising prices. If needed, our traders from the Market yard will sell these products at retail prices in the various markets to send a message to the retailers, Sonthalia said.
