Chaibasa, Nov 24 : A gruesome murder case has come to light in Majhgaon police station area after the half-naked body of a shopkeeper was discovered hidden in bushes inside a graveyard premises on Friday.
Police have arrested three accused who have confessed to killing the man over a long-standing land dispute.
According to Majhgaon Police Station In-charge, Sub-Inspector Upendra Narayan Singh, a burnt TVS moped was spotted near a stream at Khadpos village, Hatani Sai locality, on November 22 around 1:30 pm.
Police reached the location and identified the vehicle as belonging to local hawker and shopkeeper, Shriram Birua.
When police visited Birua’s residence, they found the house locked from outside but the television left running inside.
Bloodstains were visible on the door and floor, and household items were found scattered, raising immediate suspicion of foul play.
Birua, who lived alone and ran a small grocery shop while travelling on his moped for sales, was missing.
A search operation was launched, and his body was soon recovered about 100 meters away, inside the graveyard campus near a mosque.
His body was partially unclothed and covered with bushes. Police conducted videography and followed forensic protocols before sending the body to Sadar Hospital, Chaibasa, for post-mortem.
Based on a written complaint filed by the victim’s son, Jayasingh Birua, an FIR (Majhgaon P.S. Case No. 37/25 dated Nov 23, 2025) was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against three named accused – Suraj Birua alias Taklu (28), Madhu Bankira alias Donda (21) and
Rahul Pinguwa (29)
— all residents of Khadpos village, Majhgaon, West Singhbhum district.
During interrogation, all three reportedly confessed to murdering Birua due to an ongoing land dispute.
On their revelation, police recovered blood-stained iron rods, a dagger, and the victim’s blood-soaked trousers from a haystack near his house. All items have been seized as evidence.
After completing necessary legal procedures, the arrested accused were produced before the court.
The incident has caused shock and unrest in the local community, as investigations continue to uncover further details surrounding the crime.
