Centre to sign MoU with Jharkhand for airports in Dhalbhum, Hazaribagh and Deoghar

MP Jamshedpur meets Suresh Prabhu and Jayant Sinha on airport issue

Jamshedpur: Central government is going to sign an MoU with the Government of Jharkhand to pave way for the construction of airports in Dhalbhumgarh, Hazaribagh and Deoghar. This was announced by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha, during a meeting with the MP of Jamshedpur Bidyut Baran Mahato.

The Jamshedpur MP met Union Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu and Jayant Sinha on Tuesday to discuss the issue of airport construction at Dhalbhumgarh. He handed a memorandum to the Union Aviation Minister while pointing out the difficulties caused by the lack of a full-fledged and well-connected airport in the industrial town.

During the meeting, Mahato said the Kolhan region had an abundance of natural resources and a large number of companies including the Tata Steel. In the absence of an airport, connectivity has taken a beating, which is in turn hampering development of the entire region, said the MP.

Mahato informed the Union Ministers that a survey had been conducted in Dhalbhumgarh earlier. He also showed a map of the proposed airport construction site to them.

Asked about the scale of benefits the proposed airport would have, Mahato said it would be a great help for the people of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. The Ministers assured to speak to the Jharkhand CM to remove the roadblocks on the way of the project to pave way for the airport.
