Ranchi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Junior Engineer (JE) of the South Eastern Railway on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe. The official, identified as Ravindra Kumar, was caught red-handed while taking money from a private company representative in exchange for facilitating an electrical connection.
The Bribery Trap
Ravindra Kumar, a Junior Engineer (Electrical) posted at Bhojudih in Bokaro (Adra Division), reportedly demanded ₹15,000 from a complainant. The bribe was intended to secure an electrical connection for a private firm’s site office.
Following a preliminary verification of the complaint filed on March 16, the CBI laid a strategic trap. Agency officials apprehended the accused while he was accepting an initial payment of ₹10,000.
Ongoing Investigation and Searches
Following the arrest, the CBI launched simultaneous searches at the office and residential premises of the accused. Key developments in the investigation include:
-
Evidence Gathering: Officials are currently examining documents and digital evidence seized during the raids.
-
Wider Probe: Investigators are checking if Kumar has a history of similar corrupt practices or if other railway officials were involved in the demand.
-
Legal Action: The CBI will produce the accused before a competent court once legal formalities are complete.
The agency stated that further details are expected as the forensic analysis of the gathered evidence progresses.
