Jamshedpur: Two motorcycle-borne looters looted cash worth Rs 3.25 lakh from the possession of a contractor, Harendra Singh, near St. Marys Church at Bistupur in broad daylight on Wednesday.
Sources said the incident took place in the afternoon when the contractor was on his way to Dhatkidih with the cash kept in a bag held by him. The culprits intercepted the victim and snatched the bag from his possession. They decamped before the victim could raise an alarm.
Police later reached the scene and began investigation into the incident. They said they were trying to find out if the complaint was true. They said the contractor had withdrawn Rs 3.5 lakh form a Bistupur branch of the Bank of India and later deposited Rs 25,000 at another branch of the same bank at N Road, Bistupur.
After depositing the amount, Singh left for Dhatkidih where he was supposed to disburse the wages of workers at a construction site, cops said.
Police officials said they would be going through CCTV footage in the two banks to find out if the victim had actually been there as per his complaint.
