Jamshedpur : Cases of road mishaps at the newly constructed Tata-Kandra Road are on rise. Ever since the Tata-Kandra Road got operational on December 31 last year, several mishaps took place in which 186 people have died.
Sources said heavy vehicles coming out of industrial units of Adityapur are the worst offenders. Instead of keeping left and then taking a U-turn after a kilometre or so, these trucks hurtle down the wrong side, facing oncoming traffic and risking the lives of hundreds on two or four-wheelers.
There are no traffic rules on the Tata-Kandra Road. Drivers have to be alert throughout the stretch and dodge vehicles coming from the wrong side, said a senior official of Gamharia based company.
A 35-year-old man was fatally injured as the bike he was riding was first hit by a 407 truck coming from the opposite direction and subsequently by a dumper from behind on Tata-Kandra Road near the Sudha Dairy bottling unit under Adityapur police station area.
The mishap victim, identified as Saurabh Das of Gamharia, was hit by 407 truck . As a result of the mishap, the victim had come under the wheel of the dumper along with the bike and sustained fatal head injury. He was rushed to the MGM Medical College and Hospital emergency, where he was declared as brought dead. The police subsequently shifted the body to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem.
Assistant sub-inspector Islam Khan of Adityapur police station who is looking into the mishap said that the driver of the dumper has been arrested and the dumper seized.
According to sources, the victim who was employee at an industrial unit in Adityapur was coming to attend his duty in Adityapur as the mishap took place.
This was the fourth fatal mishap to have taken place on Tata-Kandra Road within the past fortnight. A week ago, a 25-year-old bike had rammed into a dumper and got fatally injured near Beko More on the Tata-Kandra Road. The victim was later succumbed to his injury at the MGM Medical College mortuary.
Superintendent of police, Seraikela-Kharsawan Madan Mohan Lal claimed that they have deputed traffic police at some strategic locations on the Tata-Kandra Four-lane, but still the heavy vehicles continues to violate the rules and cause mishap.
