Jamshedpur, July 21: Carmel Junior College is organising ASISC Zonal Junior and senior boys’ football tournament at Carmel Bal Vihar Ground, Sonari, from 24 to 27 July.
Total of 27 schools from Jamshedpur will be taking part in the tournament in both the senior and junior boys’ category, said, M. Lini A.C, Principal of Carmel Junior College.
Addressing a press conference in the school premises on Saturday, Principal informed that the winning team in both the category from Jamshedpur Zone will be selected for the ASISC regional tournament to be held at Sahebganj (Jharkhand) from 26th August.
Talking about the Jamshedpur Zonal tournament, Pradeep Mukherjee, Games Teacher of the school, said, the tournament will be inaugurated by Sunita Sinha, Principal of Gulmohar School and Zonal Co-ordinator of Jamshedpur ASISC School on July 24.
Mr. Mukherjee further said that the duration of match will be 20 mins (10 mins each half with 5 mins interval). The JSA referees will help in smooth conduct of the match.
SSP of East Singhbhum Anoop T Mathew will be present as the chief guest during the closing ceremony on 27th July. Mr. Mukherjee added.
Inter School Team Chess Tournament from July 29
In another sports event, Carmel Junior College in association with Jamshedpur Chess Academy will be organizing Carmel Summit Inter School Team Chess Tournament from 29th July to 31st July in the school auditorium.
Pradeep Mukherjee said that 10 city schools including JH Tarapore, Tarapore Agrico, Carmel Junior College, Loyola, Kerala Public School, Kadma, Motilal Nehru Public School, Mount Litera Zee School, Sacred Heart Convent School, DAV NIT and DBMS English School.
The tournament will be conducted in two categories junior (upto class 8) and senior (class 9 to 12). Teams will comprise of four members (either all four girls or all four boys or a mixed team). The event will be played on Swiss format basis of 7 rounds, of one hour each.
This is the fifth occasion when a team chess tournament will be played in Jamshedpur, added the games teacher.
He also informed that Carmel Junior College boy Vatsal Singhania who won his maiden international title at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in New Delhi recently will be felicitated at the opening day of the chess tournament.
