Daltonganj: An uncontrolled car ran over 17 people in the Shahpur-Gahwa route Chainpur police limits of Palamu district in Jharkhand on late Monday night. Three people died on the spot and 14 others were injured in the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Udal Prasad Chaurasia, son of Vasishtha Mahato of Narsinghpur Pathra, his grandson Rohit Kumar and Madhu Mehta of Kota village. All three died on the spot. While 14 other people injured in the accident have been admitted to MMCH for treatment.
According to reports, a cultural programme was organised in Chadhavna Tola located on Shahpur-Garhwa road attended by several people from the area. Meanwhile, an uncontrolled car driver ran over pedestrians injuring 14 others during the escape. Many of the injured are in critical condition. According to eyewitnesses, after the incident, the driver left the car a kilometer away from the accident spot and fled the spot. The car was also completely damaged in the incident.
Local people also helped a lot in admitting the injured to the hospital.
After receiving the information about the incident, the police took possession of all the bodies and sent them to MMCH for post-mortem. Senior officials of the administration also reached the hospital and gave necessary instructions for proper treatment of the injured. Locals alleged that the car driver was drunk.
BJP MLA Alok Chaurasia expressed grief over the incident and condoled with the family members of the deceased. He has demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation to the closest kin of each deceased from the state government and proper treatment of the injured.
