Jadugoda: The canal adjoining river Satgurum in Narsinghpur of Galudih under Ghatsila block has failed to solve the purpose for which it was constructed.

Situated in extremism-affected area, the canal was built with the view to provide water to the local farmers. Several crores were spent on building this canal and a culvert passing over it.

But water is drained out of the canal due to seepage. As a result, the farmers have to depend on the water released from the Chandil dam during rainy season.

Under the Swarnarekha Multi-purpose Project in Seraikela-Kharsawan, the canal and culvert were built to help the farmers irrigate their fields adequately.

A local farmer, Dashrath Bauri, said the canal remained dry in most of the months in a year. The farmers are therefore able to produce crops once in a year. The culvert was built way back in the year 1985.
