Kolkata, Feb 12 (IANS) The One Billion Rising campaign to protest violence against women will kick off in West Bengal Feb 14 with the theme “I Rise against Sexual Violence”, a statement said Wednesday.
It is a global campaign which calls for an end to violence, for justice and gender equality. This is also a global call to women survivors of violence and those who love and support them to speak up against atrocities against women, the statement said.
Kolkata-based women’s rights organisation ‘Swayam’ will spearhead the campaign, in collaboration with the Jadavpur University’s School of Women’s Studies.
According to Swayam, as part of the movement, a workshop will be held Feb 14 to discuss the Sexual Harassment of Women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
A walk-through inside the varsity’s campus has also been scheduled during the day to express solidarity with the campaign.
A large number of organisations and individuals have joined the cause in the state.
