CAIT demands action against e-commerce companies

Jamshedpur, Dec 16: Members of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) demanded a host of punitive measures against various e-commerce companies for the alleged violation of government norms.

In a letter sent to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, CAIT national secretary Suresh Sonthalia said the Central government should take stringent measures against the e-commerce companies for violating the foreign direct investment (FDI) policy and evading tax. He said the Centre should formulate a strong e-commerce policy and national retail policy besides forming e-commerce ombudsman and a retail regulatory authority.

The MSME Ministry has decided to join hands with some prominent e-commerce players with the view to connect small retailers to e-commerce. The Ministry also proposes to provide financial assistance to them. This is unfortunate as the government wants to collaborate with companies which are habitual economic offenders and which have been prosecuted in different countries, said Sonthalia.
