Seraikela: For the first time in the district, cage method fish farming will be introduced in the Sitarampur Reservoir under the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), marking a significant step toward improving tribal livelihoods, nutrition security, and economic empowerment.
The project will see the installation of 32 cage units in the 70-hectare reservoir. Each unit will consist four cages, with each cage measuring 7x5x5 meters. Fish spwans will be reared using scientific aquaculture techniques, enabling increased fish production and income generation through their sale.
To support the beneficiaries, the government will provide 90% subsidy for cage-based fish farming. Additionally, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, ice boxes, and other logistics will be supplied for fish marketing. Infrastructure like fiber boats, fishing nets, and office sheds is also being developed to aid fishing activities in the reservoir.
The initiative is aimed at making tribal communities self-reliant while also opening new avenues for eco-tourism in the region.
In a parallel effort, four biofloc ponds will be constructed in Lepatand (Ichagarh Block) at a cost of Rs 56 lakh. These ponds will further strengthen the district’s aquaculture capabilities with advanced technology.
This integrated approach under the Dharti Aba campaign is expected to pave the way for sustainable livelihood development, improved nutrition, and rural tourism growth in Seraikela-Kharsawan.
