Business ethics necessary as well as beneficial: Bakshi

Jamshedpur: Traders of the city owing allegiance to Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry today iterated their commitment to ethical practices in trade and commerce. They took a vow to continue with the tradition of ethical practices adopted by Tata Steel during a meeting with the representatives of Tata Steel on business ethics at Chamber Bhavan, Bistupur, on Tuesday.

Praising the efforts of the SCCI members, Amitava Bakshi, chief procurement officer, Tata Steel, said ethical practices were not only necessary to ensure transparency but were also necessary for long term benefit. He said Tata Steel had a code of conduct which was compulsory for each and every employee of the company. He said every employee was expected to stick to highest level of ethics in his individual capacity.

He said he was pleased to know that the city traders and industrialists, who were also vendors of Tata Steel, followed the ethical tenets while partnering with the steel major. He said the company was trying its best to promote business and work ethics.

Also present on the occasion was RK Singh, head MRO, Tata Steel. He spoke on the significance of ethics in business and professional life. He said Tata Steel appreciated ethical practices and promoted it at all levels. He said the vendors were also doing the same which was praiseworthy.

Addressing the meeting, Suresh Sonthalia, president of SCCI, said the traders had learnt a lot from Tata Steel. He said ethical values were being adhered to by the traders. He stressed on following ethical ways to gain profit instead of taking short cuts.
