Jamshedpur, Sep 27: Preserving an old cemetery is a lot like loving someone. Offer too much love and you can stunt one’s personality and growth. Offer too little, and watch it slowly decay from want.

Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) with the help of Tata Steel will renovate the burial place of creator of the ‘Ol Chiki’ script for the ‘Santhali’ language.

Biren Bhutta, Chief TSRDS, who has been visiting Dandbose, hopes to position the burial place of Pandit Raghunath Murmu the inventor of ‘Ol Chiki’ script who was also revered by the Santhals as Guru Gomke, as one of the town’s main tourist attractions.

Biren Bhutta anticipates that when fully rehabilitated, the cemetery will boast manicured lawns, trees and benches and be equipped with the necessary amenities to conduct regular cultural events in Village Dandbose, in Mayurbhanj district of Orrisa.

Addressing the press on Friday Bhutta told that the burial place will be renovated to accommodate at least 1000 people for prayers during anniversary and festivals. A pond located within the premises will also be deepened to increase the irrigation area of its surrounding agricultural land.

Supportive infrastructure like deep bore well and overhead tank will be installed to  rovide drinking facilities to devotees, added Bhutta.

On the occasion officials of the Tata Steel along with Bhimwar Murmu who is the grandson of Pandit Raghunath Murmu, Kishore Murmu, K Suraj Tudu, Subhash Chandra Murmu, Kailu Mardi of the Santhal community and several others were present.
