Jamshedpur: Burglars broke into a house in Govindpur on Wednesday night and decamped with cash and jewellery worth around  Rs 3 lakh.

The incident took place at Quarter No. 14 on Patel Nagar Road No. 4. The victim, Krishna Prasad, works as a contract employee with Lafarge (now Nuvoco Vistas). According to police, the burglars broke the main gate lock and entered the premises while the family was asleep on the second floor.

The burglars specifically targeted the first floor of the house occupied by Krishna Prasad. During the burglary, the miscreants ransacked all the rooms and broke open the almirah locker, stealing cash along with gold and silver ornaments.

The theft came to light around 4 am when Krishna Prasad’s wife came downstairs and noticed the broken lock. On raising an alarm, other family members rushed to the spot and found the house in complete disarray.

Govindpur police were immediately informed, and a team reached the spot to begin the investigation. Police conducted a preliminary inspection, questioned nearby residents, and have started scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the culprits. An FIR has been registered against unknown persons based on Krishna Prasad’s statement.

Prasad’s brother, Yogendra Prasad, a contract worker at Tata Motors, stated that all family members were sleeping together on the upper floor at the time of the incident, which the thieves appear to have exploited. Police officials said the investigation was on and efforts are being made to identify and arrest the accused with the help of CCTV footage.
