Burglars strike Tata Steel quarter in Burmamines, jewellery worth Rs 3.5 lakh stolen

Jamshedpur: Thieves carried out a daring burglary at a Tata Steel residential quarter on KPS Road under the Burmamines Police Station area, making away with gold and silver jewellery worth nearly Rs 3.5 lakh along with Rs 12,000 in cash.

The incident occurred at Quarter No. 56, which belongs to Tata Steel employee Ramchandra Das, late on Tuesday evening. While Das resides with his family in Kadma, his elderly father and aunt were staying at the Burmamines quarter at the time of the incident.

According to the police, the two had locked the house and stepped out briefly to a nearby residence—Quarter No. 54—to watch television. Seizing the opportunity, the burglars allegedly scaled the rear wall of the quarter, broke open the grill lock, and entered the house. They reportedly targeted the almirah, from where they decamped with jewellery and cash.

Upon returning later in the evening, the occupants found the lock broken, the almirah forced open, and household articles scattered throughout the room. Shocked by the incident, the family immediately informed relatives and alerted the police.

Following the information, police reached the spot, inspected the premises, and began questioning local residents. A case has been registered against unknown persons, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being scrutinized. Police officials said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the culprits at the earliest.
