Bullet-riddled body of ex-army man found lying in Jamshedpur, police suspect murder

Jamshedpur Bullet-ridden body of a 42-year-old former Army man was found lying near a bridge under Birsanagar police station on Monday morning.The body was found  under the Lupungdih-Barabanki bridge over Subernarekha river .

Identified as Ramji Gupta, is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself by his licensed revolver, the firearms that was still intact in his hand also suggests it could also be a case of murder.The victim who was a bachelor resided at Gwala Bustee in Nildih in Telco and resigned from his service in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) three years ago.

Apart from the victim’s licensed revolver, the police have recovered his two cellphones, motorcycle and helmet from the spot.

OC, Birsanagar thana, Bhushan Kumar said that it is too early to comment on the death of Gupta but apparently seemed to be a case of suicide, but it could  also be a murder case.

“We are probing the incident having registered a case of murder on the FIR lodged by the victim’s brother Ramesh Gupta who is also a resident of Gwala Bustee at Nildih,” said Kumar.

“IT is a suspected case of suicide as headphone was intact in the head and the revolver was in the victim’s palm. These are some of the  vital points which suggest that it can be a case of murder. Moreover, there was no reason for Gupta to take such drastic step,” said the officer-in-charge.

The OC said that they have recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem.  He also said that they would sent the revolver that they recovered from the victim’s palm for a forensic test at the forensic science laboratory in Ranchi.
