Jamshedpur, July 19: A crime wave has gripped the city in recent months with figures showing a substantial increase in the number of attacks, thefts and loot taking place across the city. While the deteriorating law and order situation in the city remains a major concern, �the police personnel are busy in cooperating with the district administration in fighting against spread of Coronavirus. Criminals were on a shooting spree in and around the steel city on Saturday night.
In separate cases of attacks a chicken trader and a builder under MGM and Adityapur police station areas on Saturday night. Though no one was injured in the twin gun-shot attack, the incidents have triggered a sense of fear among the people.
The first incident took place near Sudha Dairy on Tata-Kandra four-lane under Adityapur police station area, when two bike-borne criminals opened fire at the car of a builder Sanjay Mohanty. The shots hit the windscreen of the victim’s car, but he escaped unhurt. The criminals attacked the builder while he was returning home at Manglam City in Adityapur.
The residents of Manglam City as well as from the neighbourhood reached the spot, causing the attackers to flee.
OC, Adityapur police station, Sushma Kumari also reached the spot and started looking for attackers. She also found four empty cartridges from the scene of attack before taking the victim to the police station for recording his version.
“As per the initial probe we have come to know that the gun-shot attack was in sequel to an enmity over plot of lands. We are hopeful that those indulged in the attack will be arrested soon,” Sushma Kumari.
�The city had been free from crimes, but now the `knife culture’ has taken roots. The police should act with utmost vigil and nab the accused. The increase in crimes is a matter of concern. Thefts were a common but recent rise of cases of murders is serious,� said a district official.
Meanwhile East Singhbhum senior superintendent of police (SSP) M Tamil Vanan recently held a crime meeting at his office and asked his team to strengthen their intelligence network to rein in the city�s soaring crime graph.
