Jamshedpur: Six railway stations of Kolhan are all set to get a facelift as the Railway Ministry has proposed to upgrade them. Allocations for the proposed upgradation have been made in the Union Budget announced yesterday. These stations include Adityapur, Ghatsila, Chakulia, Chandil, Manoharpur and Chaibasa.
Sources said the Railway department is going to install CCTV cameras in each of these stations in a bid to enhance security arrangements. Except Adityapur, all other stations are situated in extremism-hit areas. Maoists have pasted posters in these places some or the other time. Chakradharpur, Tatanagar and Rourkela stations already have CCTV cameras.
Sources said the Govindpur halt situated on the Howrah-Mumbai route will be developed. South Eastern Railway zonal authorities have got the nod to enhance passenger facilities at Govindpur halt.
Sources said several model stations of Chakradharpur and Kharagpur rail divisions have been included in this years budget. A mechanized laundry is proposed to be set up at Chakradharpur railway divisional headquarters. This would help the Railways give clean bedrolls to passengers. Tatanagar railway station already has this facility.
Sources further said that a third railway line is to be laid from Rajkharsawan to Jhinkpani. Third line is also proposed to be laid through Manoharpur, Sini and several other stations. Two new railway lines (106 km each) will be constructed from Ranchi to Jamshedpur. This would reduce the distance between Ranchi and Jamshedpur stations by 100 km. Other pending projects are also going to be expedited. They include laying of third railway line from Chakulia to Adityapur (71 km), Chakradharpur to Goelkera (34 km) and Tatanagar to Jharsugora (265 km). Janani Seva Scheme is also included in the Budget proposal.
