Budding teachers of Karim City participate in Science workshop

Jamshedpur : A group of 54 science students of Faculty of Education, Karim City College, Mango, Jamshedpur accompanied by four teachers Dr. Sandhya Sinha, HOD Faculty of Education; Nusrat Begum; Dr. Sucheta Bhuyan and Prof. Parveen Osmani visited CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur today and interacted with the working scientists and research fellows under the aegis of faculty training and motivation, adoption of schools by CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur sponsored by HRDG, CSIR, New Delhi. The students and teachers expressed their excitement and happiness over the laboratory visit as well as interaction with the scientists and working research scholars.

“The programme has been designed to give the students an exposure to modern laboratory conditions and learn to apply the various facets of science in our day to day activities”, said Dr. N.G. Goswami, Chief Scientist and Co-ordinator from NML. The programme included a talk comprising of an overview of Global Science Scenario vis-a-vis Indian Science and Technology, motivational video clippings on science, Documentary film show on CSIR and NML, practical demonstrations, lively discussion, visit around the selective units of the laboratory/NML Museum/ Archive and many more. Later the students also visited the pilot plant in Cable Town area, Golmuri.

The HOD and Dean of the Faculty of Education, Karim City college, Dr. Sandhya Sinha said, “Motivation, Inspiration and Information are the three aspects I earned today with the visit to the laboratory”.

Kehkasha Parveen, a student said, “Every data given was adequate and relevant. It helped in recalling my college days and much of things learned earlier got clarified now”.

“Visit to the laboratory has surely increased my interest towards scientific research”, remarked Hema Bhattacharjee, a B.Ed student.

Tazmin Saba, another student said, “The lab visit helped me to know the practical application of science and different outstanding research going on in the field of material science. This is definitely going to help me in my future profession”.

Md. Tansif Ahmed, a student expressed his happiness over the significant achievements of NML especially in utilization of natural resources.

The visiting teachers were deeply moved by the display of many short science experimental clippings. Nusrat Begum expressed her deep inclination to all these teaching tools.

The students and teachers were happy to learn about the innumerable contribution of CSIR like laying the foundation of R&D atmosphere in the country; efforts in making the country self sufficient in key sectors ; providing solution to many basic nagging problems and CSIR activities spread over a wide spectrum of S&T from radio and space physics, oceanography, geophysics, chemicals, drugs, genomics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, mining, aeronautics, instrumentation, environmental engineering and information technology.
