BSNL launches Eastern Zone’s first PDO Wi-Fi retail service near Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Nov 18: BSNL Jamshedpur BA (Business Area) has started first BSNL Public Data Office (PDO) of Eastern Zone in Khukharadih Village under Hitku Panchayat at Narwapahar near Jamshedpur.  The service was inaugurated online by Vivek Banzal, Director CFA, BSNL Board, New Delhi in presence of CGMT Jharkhand, GM Jamshedpur and other dignitaries.

Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently approved the DoT proposal for the establishment of public Wi-Fi networks by public data office aggregators (PDOAs) to provide public Wi-Fi service through data offices public (PDO).

New Public WiFi project under â€˜PM WANI’ (Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) scheme is primarily aimed at removing the digital divide for internet access for rural population. 

‘BSNL is delivering high speed internet date through WIFI Access Network Interface (WANI) in those areas where high speed internet in not available,’ said a BSNL official.

Talking about Public Data Office (PDO), he said, it is a retail hotspot location where good number of foot-falls are involved where users can walk-in and use high speed internet service connectivity through Wi-Fi.

The official informed that Wi-Fi service will be available in a radius of 100 to 150 meters from the hotspot which is located in PDO and it may be a retailers shop, kirana or even tea stalls.  

The company has also launched plans wherein 1 GB data will be available at Rs 9 on 1 day validity. 3 GB data for 3 days will be available at Rs 19. Similarly, 7 GB data for 7 days at Rs 39, 15 GB data for 15 days at Rs 59 and 30 GB data for 30 days at Rs 69, informed Sanjeev Verma, general manager of BSNL’s Jamshedpur area.
