Bokaro, Mar 27: Bokaro Steel City station, a key hub for both freight and passenger movement in Indian Railways, is set for a significant transformation under the Amrit Station Scheme. As one of the 72 stations of South Eastern Railway selected for redevelopment, it will be modernized into a world-class facility, enhancing connectivity and passenger experience.

Located in the Adra division, the station serves the industrial city of Bokaro and its mineral-rich surroundings. It plays a vital role in freight transport, supporting industries such as Bokaro Steel Plant, thermal power plants and cement factories. The redevelopment plan includes an iconic contemporary station building, a multi-modal transport integration system, spacious concourses, retail spaces, cafeterias, executive lounges and comfortable waiting areas. Upgraded passenger information systems, digital displays, escalators, lifts and Divyangjan-friendly facilities will further improve accessibility and convenience.
Several infrastructural upgrades, including facade development, VIP lounge, parking facilities, entry/exit gates, concourse area and a surveillance room, have already been completed. The remaining work, which will be done in phases to minimize disruption, includes the false ceiling of the platform shed, a second-class waiting hall, a new foot overbridge, garden development and additional roadwork in the circulating area.
The redevelopment of Bokaro Steel City station marks a major milestone in enhancing railway infrastructure, ensuring improved amenities and elevating passenger comfort in the region.
