Jamshedpur : On the occasion of World Kidney Day, Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital today organised a unique interactive session on ‘Chronic Kidney Diseases’ and options for diagnosis and treatment for patients and their family members. At the session, more than forty patients and their families shared experiences on the improved quality of life post dialysis and interacted with doctors and specialists from the hospital. The session was headed by Dr. Waheed Khan, Consultant Nephrologist at Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital.
The programme commenced with a talk by Dr. Waheed Khan that focused on the prevalence of Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD) in India and the lifestyle modifications that can help in avoiding the disease. His session also touched upon the importance of rehabilitation for patients undergoing dialysis to help them regain selfconfidence. The talk was followed by an interactive session where the doctor addressed queries of patients and their caregivers related to living better with dialysis, controlling disease progression, diet and so on.
Addressing the audience at the session, Vineet Saini, facility director, Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, said, “Unhealthy diet, poor lifestyle and co-morbidities like diabetes are some of the key factors responsible for the high percentage of patients developing chronic kidney diseases. CKD is chronic progressive loss of kidney function and has been internationally recognized as a major health problem. However, there is very little awareness about the cause, risk factors and right line of treatment. Through this session, we aim to educate people on the need to focus on the health of kidneys for overall well-being.”
World Kidney Day (WKD) is a global initiative to raise awareness on the role of our kidneys in safeguarding our health with an aim to reduce the frequency of kidney diseases and associated health problems.
