Jamshedpur, Feb. 21 : In view of blast of a low-intensity bomb in the toilet of Bhiwani-Kanpur Kalindi Express near Kanpur, Tatanagar railway authorities have on Thursday started a random checking of passenger trains.
Following alert sounded by the Railway Board in New Delhi, the checking of passenger trains was started.
An official ofRailway Protection Force (RPF) said that they have pressed a sniffer dog for checking the trains passing through Tatanagar railway station. ” We have received instructions from our office to increase.The trains that underwent random checking included Howrah-TitlagarhIspat Express , Horwah-Mumbai Duronto Express and Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express ,” said.
Inspector, Railway Protection Force (RPF) MK Singh said that the checking exercise is being done during the halting time of the trains. Singh, on being asked, pointed out the RPF has only one sniffer dog, at their disposal.
” We have ensured strict vigil in the trains. The sniffer dog was made to enter into the bogies, especially at the A/c compartments. The dog sniffs everywhere, including at the luggage of the passengers and also into the toilet,” said the RPF inspector.
“We want to ensure safe journey during the holiday season. During a recent meeting the Railway Protection Force and Railway Protection Security Force have been asked to be extra vigil. They have been asked to get hold of suspected passengers on moving trains and on the platforms,” said an official.
For checking petty crimes like pick pockets and snatching, plainclothes policemen will be deployed at Tatanagar( A1 category railway station), Rourkela and Chakradharpur ( both A-category railway stations).
“We have issued important instructions all over. We will also closely monitor movement of passengers in CCTV cameras installed at Tatanagar railway station, which witnesses the largest footfall of passengers compared to other stations under Chakradharpur division. We also appeal to passengers to register their security related complaints at 182, the universal number, so that we can act fast,” said the official.
Tatanagar railway station witnesses a daily traffic of over 90- mail, express and passenger trains which either originate from Tatanagar of go via that station. The daily passenger footfall is close to 60,000.
It is about hundred years old station and one of the most popular railway stations of the country.
